Asha's sound has been described by one admirer as "sophisticated soul". Be it Gospel, Blues, Country, Hip Hop, or her own compositions, Asha blesses any song with the divine caress of her voice. Gifted in the musical arts, Asha also writes and arranges, accompanying herself on bass, keyboards, and drums.
Daughter of Martha Haggans, featured vocalist with the Count Basie Orchestra, Asha began her professional career while in high school. Her vocal group "The Lornettes" scored a hit on the top ten Philadelphia charts with "I Don't Deny it, Girl", a song written for them by Gene Page. Contracted to Phil Spector studios shortly thereafter, Asha recorded as a member of "The Ronettes", and went on to accompany R&B legends Sam and Dave and crooner Barry White in the studios of 20th Century Fox and Epic Records for Clive Davis. While at 20th Century Fox Studios, Asha recorded the orginal version of "The Morning After", subsequently released by Maureen McGovern for the movie "The Posiedon Adventure".
Appearing by herself or with other members of her musical family, Asha has delighted audiences around the world with her voice. Her family's group "Martha's Children" followed a successful world tour with an extended engagement on the Nevada casino circuit. In a more recent project, Asha fronted a four piece band (again composed of family members) who entertained vacationers aboard Royal Caribbean and Princess cruise ships.
Currently, Asha divides her time between appearances writing and arranging her own gospel compositions and working with the church choir in the rural community of Warren, Oregon. She and her husband own and operate The Old School of Music in nearby St. Helens where both of them teach. Her ongoing project, "The Ash'Cappella Choir" and the new family band "Honestly" continue to gather momentum and are currently making appearances in Oregon and Washington .
